Ahead of the game
I am calm, while those around me lose their heads.
Drums beat, crowds swell.
The people press for rapture, awaiting deliverance.
I am calm. I must be strong.
I stand tall amongst my squad; the Captain, the Master. My uniform flashes blood red in the orange light.
I am calm. I won’t drop the ball.
A single pass, well executed, that’s all it will take. Supporters elate; opponents deflate.
Wooden boards, well worn, well-travelled, usher to the basket. The court is at rest, its duty performed, the players must play.
Thousands of men, women and children line the arena. The home support is vocal, vicious; rivals muffled, hushed.
I am calm. I wait.
The King is here. Amongst the horde. Amongst the pounding and howling and roaring.
The King.
The condemned.
I am calm.
The blade sweeps, a single pass, the head of the King lays in the basket.

Micro fiction is my favourite as I can cope with editing it. I’m doing 6 words, 50 words, 53 words, 100 words and 101 words. Easy days! Try it and let me know
